Reagan taps Bush after Ford power dispute

Ronald Reagan chose George Bush as his running mate after Gerald Ford allegedly demanded overwhelming power for the No 2 post. Ford reportedly sought Kissinger as secretary of state Greenspan as Treasury chief and near co control of policy. Reagan aides said Ford wanted to be co president and that was unacceptable.

Youth drowns during swim with friends

Thomas Bigler, 15, of Columbia Station, drowned while swimming with his brother David and friends at Rajahland on Portman Road in Henrietta Township. Deputies say he disappeared about 6:30 p.m. and was found about 7:15 p.m. A rescue crew attempted revival. he would have begun his sophomore year at Columbia High School this fall. Funeral arrangements are by Baker Funeral Home in Berea.

Storm disrupts weather with scattered damage and cool spell

A weak cold front and strong storms swept from western New York to Chicago, halting temperatures and causing damage in several areas. In Ohio's Lorain county the impact was less severe, while Oberlin reported pea sized hail and winds up to 50 mph. The storms lowered humidity and temperatures from 81 to around 72, with a forecast for mid 80s in coming days.

Elyria man seeks compensation over park land sale

Elyria resident John F. Polacsek alleges Lorain County Park Board bought 288 acres in Carlisle Township in 1973 for 274000 while survey records showed 305 acres, claiming 17000 acres discrepancy, plus interest and fees. He says the board knew of the difference but did not inform the Solet estate and seeks 31994 in compensation. The board refused to act.
