Gas can and wires trigger Newark bomb scare

Police evacuated traffic near McCarter Highway after a reported full gas can and a plastic jug with an unidentified liquid were found in a Dodge Omni. A bomb squad opened the back, wires detached from the toolbox, and a battery pack was recovered. no explosive device was found. Investigators sought the vehicle owner, a 58 year old man from Point Pleasant. Amtrak service remained unaffected.
