Supreme Court ruling may affect Head Start case outcome

Ohio justices ruled that correcting a sentencing entry should occur via a new entry rather than a new hearing. County budget ax falls again in Lorain County

Lorain County commissioners vote to close the office services department cutting printing and related functions. The move saves about $202,000 annually though leases keep some costs. Three mail staff will be relocated and the supervisor position eliminated.

Elyria Sees Rise in Violent Crimes in 2009

Elyria police report 2009 shows increased violent offenses across 18 categories, including kidnappings up from 10 to 17 and sharp jumps in forcible fondling and rape. Overall crime rate rose only 1 percent, with arrests down 15 percent as calls totaled about 42,500. Chief Whitely cites the economy as a likely factor.

Volunteer berates pet rescue operator at Lorain County pound

Lorain County Dog Kennel volunteer Carol Brailer was told not to return as officials investigate her remark to Mike Luli of Ohio Pet Placement and The Animal House at Midway Mall. Luli alleges she called his nonprofit rescue illegitimate and shouted at him in the lobby while he picked up dogs slated for adoption.
