In Enna near the Ministry of Justice a leaderless courthouse riot erupted after a fire. Police shot at 1 45 pm. a man was seized near the Burgh fire scene. Panic spread to Moh as crowds fled toward parliament. Firearms and police pincer units used as streets locked down.

The executive committee of the Americanization Association accepted the resignation of Edith Gill as Settlement Worker in Charge of Western Heights last night. In Canton on July 15 the Lengel murder case for Saranus A Lengel, ex police chief, proceeded with jury deliberations after testimony from both sides. Prosecutor Henry W. Harter Jr. opened for the state, defense attorney W. Bernard Rodgers argued for the defendant, and special prosecutor J. B. McClintock closed for the state. Judge Frank M. Clevenger planned a brief charge to the jury tomorrow morning, with no time limit set for closing arguments. Separately in Hamilton, Mom White was sentenced to ten years for shooting Middletown officer George McChesner after pleading guilty.
President Calles ordered the release of all Catholics detained in local jails or the Tres Marias penal colony as revolutionary activity quiets. Vermilion July 15 Coroner A B Grierson exonerated Peter Nielsen driver of a truck in a fatal Vermilion railway accident that killed Concho Camarin and seriously injured Vekka Romez both Nickel Plate Railroad employees from Vermilion Camarin died at Linwood Park near Vermilion while Romez was hospitalized at St Joseph’s Lorain County.
Prohibition officers assisted by Sheriff Russell and deputies raided the Gallia county court house and seized 150 empty and partial whiskey bottles and about half a gallon of moonshine. Courthouse janitor A C Canterbury was held for questioning.
Common Pleas Judge A R Webber proposed a state law system of rural farms for prisoner labor instead of jail idleness. He said the plan would improve conditions, feed society, and could be statewide with county cooperation, citing Curahoca County’s farm at Warren.
Chauncey Naughech, president of the United Mine Workers, criticized John J. Lewis and dismissed reports that Daugherty advocated abandoning the Jacksonville wage agreement or forming an independent wage pact. Washington reports the navy orders a search for trans Pacific flyers Ernest Smith and Henry Bronte after believed water landing 500 miles from Hawaii. San Francisco July 15 The Weather Bureau reports Ernest L. Smith and his aviator Emery Bronte, who were forced down in the Pacific, will not face rough weather conditions. The warning comes as the pair are reported safe from worsening conditions.
Informal discussions among delegates at the Geneva naval conference yielded no progress. Viscount Ishii of Japan and Hi lary P. Jones of the United Press held long talks on naval tonnage issues while British delegates showed low spirits over Japan's refusal to consent to increased tonnage.
Henry White former ambassador to France and Italy died at Elm Court Lenox after an operation. He is survived by his wife Emily Valder White and son John Waite. Funeral services set for Trinity Episcopal Church Lenox Sunday at 3 PM. White was a member of the U S peace delegation to Versailles under Woodrow Wilson.
CLEY ROLAND July 16 A thirty-five foot speedboat with seven hundred cases of Canadian ale was captured today near Vermilion by lake border patrolmen. It is the fourth booze smuggling boat the patrol has seized this week. Two men were taken aboard: John Piertrinre Taleo and Leo Port, both from Ecorme Michigan.
The Ohio Coal Operators executive committee moved to reopen idle mines today after demanding union workers return at wages below the Jacksonville scale. They telegraphed Danaghery, district president, for an independent wage scale conference and prepared to start work near Bellaire. A meeting with accredited delegates is planned at the Ambrose Hotel in Lorain on Monday July 18 at 10 am. }).
Joseph M. Arter of Vermilion was paroled today after pleading guilty to driving while intoxicated on July 5. He received a 60 day sentence and a 325 fine plus costs, and must report biweekly to Court Bailiff C. Jackson with final review set for September 1. He also signed a pledge to become a total abstainer from alcohol.
Vermilion resident Martin Serebl aged 35 sustained two neck fractures after diving from a pier into Vermilion Lake and striking his head on a rock. He was alive but unconscious at a Lorain hospital where a physician prepared to operate.
