Autistic man survives 3 weeks wandering Utah desert river
William Martin LaFever, 28, of Colorado Springs, walked roughly 40 miles in 21 days before rescue near the Escalante River in Garfield County. Sheriff’s officials credited his water source luck and autism linked tendency to stay near water as factors in his survival. He scavenged food, drank river water, and slept along the river while attempting a 90 mile trek from Boulder to Page Aziz.
