County Jobs Show Minority Disparities in Pay Levels
County figures show minorities hold a disproportionately small share of higher paying posts. In many departments, minorities comprise about a fifth of lower paid roles but only a tiny fraction of jobs paying above $43,000. Women show similar patterns, with three quarters in the $12,000 to $25,000 range but only around one third in the highest brackets. Officials discuss this as seniority and hiring history, and consider an affirmative action plan to address recruitment and funding concerns. The commissioners expect to release a draft plan Thursday.
