Schlather Insurance dominated this week with two victories over Kiwanis 7-3 and Kohlmyer's Sporting Goods 5-3. Steve Stroup was perfect at Kiwanis, walking none, fanning seven, and yielding seven hits while Stroup also drove in three. Shane Wilson fanned five in the Kohlmyer's win, striking out five with two earned runs allowed. Eric Aliff Jim Hines Stroup and Dave Criss each had two hits.
Cleveland Browns quarterback Gary Danielson wowed spectators at Spring Valley Country Club in Elyria by holing out a rare double eagle on the 515 yard par five 15th. He used a driver and a six iron, with the six iron shot rolling into the cup from 185 yards. Witnesses included Dan and Link Goldense of Rocky River, and host Jim Dunn, a former Elyrian now in Westlake.
A 1986 Marine Inspection Day by Elyria Flotilla 0912 showcased 133 watercraft, prompting a bystander to insist guests aboard a boat be familiar with safety gear, radios, flares, anchors, and compass use. The day highlighted a passenger safety awareness gap and the need for pre voyage checks to prevent emergencies.
Lorain Casters Fishing Club held a monthly panfishing outing at Wellington Upground Reservoir under clear skies. Anglers, led by Elyria president Tim Anderson, measured undersized bluegill and perch, shared a fun day with no prizes or entry fees, and enjoyed camaraderie despite few legal fish.
