Gov Celeste orders a major overhaul of Ohio deputy registrar operations to curb political influence. Phase in starts next year with pilot counties, bids required, and a 10 cent per transaction fee diverted to a new fund for a state mail system. No change to the $20 vehicle fee.
Sherman C. Micsak 31, eight years with Lorain City Schools, was appointed North Ridgeville Junior High School assistant principal by a 5-0 vote. Initial 10 month contract at 38531 dollars. He succeeds Joseph Dudek as principal of Fields-Sweet Elementary.
The state auditor’s office will review a financial forecast for Ridgeville city schools to cover potential borrowing through the 1988-89 year. A 5.4 mill emergency operating levy, on Aug 2, could generate about 1.01 million annually, offsetting a projected deficit above 1 million by June 1989.
Oberlin residents face mandatory water restrictions and a rate hike as the city proceeds with a $6.7 million sewer project ordered by the EPA. Violations may incur fines up to 100 dollars. A 1989 Plum Creek violation settlement and a federal Clean Water Act push are cited. Bond issuance is expected by early fall to fund the project.
Police say cocaine was seized when two Elyria men were arrested after an Elyria Police Detective Bureau investigation. Danny Deischer 26 and James Heyde 29 both face aggravated trafficking in drugs, with Heyde also charged with conspiracy to commit drug abuse and tampering. They are to be arraigned today in Elyria Municipal Court. In a separate case Clarence Kilzer 78 was charged with three counts of gross sexual imposition connected to incidents with three pre teenage girls at a residence in Elyria.
A resident on High Street reported a threat and arm twisting at 2:30 p.m. A bicycle was stolen on 419 161th Street at 3:05 p.m. A car stereo was taken on Seland Street. A shoplift at Free Shoes occurred at 5:05 p.m. An aggravated burglary with a stolen family photo was logged at 8:15 p.m. A residential trash disposal fire at 414 Park Ave caused about 700 dollars in damage. A 26-year-old Elyria man fell victim to a confidence scheme at the bank leading to a loss of 50 dollars. He was duped into surrendering his wallet then retrieved nothing after a tissue-wrapped “money.” The car theft reported at Milford River Co. involved eight tool boxes stolen after entry through a broken window at 6 a.m.
Lorain City Schools appointed Houston Love 42 athletic director at the district Monday night ending rumors of Steve Bailey taking the post. Several principal and assistant principal roles were filled from within with Lorain natives Irwin Kos Dortch Flanigan and Kempf moving to new posts. Kempf moves from 10 month to 12 month assignment at Southview High School.
