Cleveland Orchestra strike stalls as talks end
Negotiations to end an eight day strike by Cleveland Orchestra musicians broke off with no progress. The walkout by 110 members of AFM Local 4 has canceled Blossom Music Festival events and left tickets refunding by mail while top orchestras await a settlement. The union rejected a Musical Arts Association offer that would raise pay by 205 weekly over three years, saying it was inadequate despite manager Kenneth Haas calling it the largest pay rise in U.S. orchestral history.
