LCCC arts center debut sparks ticket tab debate

About 450 donors who gave nearly 1.5 million to the 7.1 million Stocker Fine Arts and Humanities Center will receive two half-price tickets for one of six performances starting Sept 30 with the Cleveland Orchestra. Donor seating plan reserves half the main auditorium for opening night, with 200-250 similar seats for other shows ending Oct 11. center seat count is 984. Even with an 18,000 gift from an unnamed source, a 5,500 deficit is projected if 90 percent or fewer seats sell in opening week, offset by a later page.

Two Die in Turnpike Crash Near Olmsted Falls

A Shaker Heights couple, Joseph J. Holisway, 76, and Mary S dolloway, died Thursday afternoon when their vehicle left the Ohio Turnpike four and a half miles west of Exit 18 near Olmsted Falls and struck a cement culvert. Authorities were unsure whether Holisway was struck by a medical event before the crash.

Richard Queen Freed From Iran Released For Health Reason

Richard Queen, released after 251 days in captivity, flew from Tehran to Zurich for medical checks at University Hospital. YMCA Cuts Hours Wages as Summer Budget Belt Tightens

Elyria Ohio's Elyna Family YMCA will close Saturdays and cut salaries by 10 percent until September 30 as part of a cost-saving plan. The building will be closed August 23 to September 7 except for administrative work. Other savings include reduced air conditioning, travel, seminars, and a 50 percent lighting cut, with gym and swimming classes possibly doubled if safe. Agencies face 28 percent fund cut in Lorain County

Lorain County welfare officials announced a 28 percent cut in operating funds for nine major social service agencies for the first quarter of 1980-81. The Lorain County Welfare Department will lose about 78,574 in Title XX funds, with total quarterly allotment dropping from 281,250 to 202,676. Agencies affected include Lorain County Children Services and Salvation Army, among others, as contracts face reductions.

North Ridgeville boom tied to census growth surge

North Ridgeville leads county growth for a second decade as US census figures show population rising 61 percent from 13 152 to 21 174 and housing units nearly doubling from 3 518 to 6 732. The North Center Ridge area shows the largest rise, with more than double population and a 166 percent housing increase.
