Viets land on three sides of Quang Tri

U S helicopters landed hundreds of South Vietnamese marines north of Quang Tri City as Saigon drives to retake the provincial capital. They faced heavy antiaircraft fire, with two helicopters reportedly shot down but crews rescued. North Vietnamese forces held the Citadel and fought from multiple points, while U S and South Vietnamese artillery and naval gunfire claimed 104 enemy dead and six tanks destroyed. The air campaign was slowed by cloud cover, and a Navy A4 Skyhawk was lost with the pilot missing. Meanwhile in Miami Beach Alabama Governor George C Wallace skipped the convention opening to direct credential battles electronically from his hotel suite as he seeks to block McGovern.

Lorain County Delegates Stand Solid for McGovern at Convention

Lorain County delegates and most of Cuyahoga County backed Sen. George McGovern in the fight over seating Chicago and California delegations. Katko said Chicago’s Daley forces walked out, Jesse Jackson’s alternate delegation was seated, and the Ohio vote counting method drew criticism.
