Welfare Levy Vote Approved in Lorain County
County commissioners approved placing a child welfare levy measure on the November ballot. The levy would be 65 hundredths of a mill, about 65 cents per $1,000 of valuation, raising roughly $390,000 annually for two years. The request comes from the child welfare board which proposed a $432,162 budget for next year. The shortfall would be covered from the county general fund. Missing after collision between freighter and fishing boat
A British freighter collided with the New Bedford fishing ship R. W. Griffin about 150 miles east of New York. The captain and engineer were reported missing, another crewman is believed dead, and two vessels’ statuses remain uncertain.
