Elryia fire officials say planning to contain a blaze rather than enter a burning General Industries building dated back years. Inspections from 1995 2005 flagged a weak third floor roof and unsafe conditions.
R L Jones aged 76, sole caregiver for his 82 year old wife Betty, was found dead in their Westwood Mobile Home Park home after a meals on wheels check. Betty, severely weak and disoriented, was hospitalized. coroner cites natural death for Jones. Dog tied outside was placed in care until family can be reached.
The U S Census Bureau estimates show Cleveland suffered the largest population drop among the nation s big cities in the past year due to manufacturing job losses and ranks second worst since 2000 behind New Orleans Katrina. Among Ohio s six largest cities Columbus and Cincinnati posted gains since 2000. Cleveland s population fell 1.1 percent.

Avon woman obtains a civil stalking protection order against Avon Lake Municipal Court bailiff Mark Hagedorn who had been enforcing a court eviction. Mingus said he threatened her during calls and visited her home at 10 p.m. as the couple prepared to vacate their Village at Avon apartment.
In Elyria on Tuesday 12 year old Austin Altomare and 13 year old Justin Dallas were struck by lightning while taking cover under a tree during a thunderstorm. Both were flown to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland and released the next morning with non life threatening injuries.
