Residents oppose Elyria East Broad widening plan
Elyria residents led by Carol Sweany oppose a four lane widening of East Broad Street arguing traffic will not justify the project. City data show traffic rising from 12 450 in 1974 to 16 000 by 1995, with opponents proposing turning lanes. The city plans right of way acquisition in 1995 with construction slated to start then.

Pecora and Burge clash over police shooting decision
Burge defends that Pecora had to decide whether to stop a fleeing vehicle or let criminals escape, while Rosenbaum argues lethal force was not justified once the felon no longer posed a threat. The jurors heard the contrasting views on the officer’s actions.

Abatement Debate Hits Avon Lake Schools and Local Leaders
Avon Lake Schools superintendent Clayton Dusek warns abatements cost about 10 million dollars in annual potential revenue as Ford's Ohio assembly plant expansion is pushed. Elyria officials express concern that tax breaks undermine education funding and U S competitiveness while weighing incentives to attract investment. Guinta and Keys argue abatements are debated yet needed to keep jobs and headquarters local amid broader tax policy concerns.

Library levy debate widens over video removal
Hank Sharp resigned from the levy campaign committee and filed a complaint form about circulation of a video. A 1 mill operating levy for the Amherst library will appear on Aug 4. Collier faced questions about his seat as DePaola plans letters to board members. The video was temporarily pulled after objections, described as blasphemous, while staff review whether it should remain withdrawn or be returned to circulation. Police investigated threats to burn the library.
