Lancaster man critically wounded in gun fight with patrolman
A Lancaster resident, about 25, was injured in the abdomen during a gun fight with Patrolman Charles Ferrell. Ferrell was wounded in the hand while attempting to arrest Reed and another man in a police car. Reed was shot by Ferrell as the other man escaped. 78 Meet Death On Highways Bolt Strikes In 21 States
Seventy eight persons in 21 states met death on the highways over the weekend and scores of others were injured. Four more were killed in Canada. Two train automobile wrecks, one in Indiana and the other in Missouri, resulted in death to five persons each. Lightning claimed its first Lorain County victim this year near Huntington Center when Wayne Hines, 20, was killed in a barn accident caused by a bolt striking a copper wire. He planned to marry in the fall and was renting the farm awaiting the ceremony.

Sen Huey P Longs Louisiana legislature created today the most autocratic government in American history railroading 21 Long sponsored acts into law in 58 minutes of a midnight session. Acting under martial law the Senate abolished municipal governments seized control over 12 000 school teachers and every public job holder for Longs patronage machine.
