City considers water sewer rate increases to fund upgrades

The council split over raises with only Water Commissioner Ai R-3rd Ward opposing. Increases would add about 600000 for water and 500000 for sewer yearly, funding a water pressure study and planned improvements including a corrosion control system costing 1450000. Utilities director says no more hikes for three years unless EPA requires. The plan also funds nearly 2 million in sewer upgrades and 500000 legal fees from a west side interceptor lawsuit involving several defendants including Nylonge Corp for alleged dumping.
