Aide Eizenstat Warns Carter on Leaking Ship Crisis
Aide Eizenstat warned the Carter administration of missteps in energy policy linking OPEC price hikes to inflation. He proposed an eight point plan, including anti OPEC speeches and top level talks, plus creation of a National Energy Mobilization Board to steer projects in the nation’s interest. Powell called the memo rhetoric and the president pressed ahead with a domestic summit at Camp David as the Tokyo summit unfolded.
