Attorney sues elections board over ballot access in Ohio
Avon attorney Gerald Phillips sues Lorain County Board of Elections in U S District Court claiming the boards reasons to block his independent run for a judge seat are unconstitutional. He contends 778 required signatures create an access burden while his 151 valid signatures were filed by the March 14 deadline. Phillips also voted in a Republican primary the day after filing, defying independent ballot rules. The race features Democrat Chris Cook and Republican Will Spiegelberg, who narrowly beat Michele Silva Arredondo in the primary. Arredondo was appointed after Burge resigned following ethics conviction.
