Seniors press for county funds at 1980 budget hearing
About 90 attendees filled the Lorain County public hearing on the 1980 budget as senior citizen groups urged commissioners to approve 139 863 for a 525 000 transit program led by Alan Bell. The plan would unlock 300 943 from federal and 84 940 from the state to expand SBS Transit services and support handicapped transport plus a three person transit office. Palace Civic Center seeks 250 000 for backstage upgrades and 175 000 for operating costs, with the county 1980 budget at 47.3 million and general fund at 10.7 million. Ritenauer said the commission will weigh these requests when setting next year’s appropriations.
