Betty White’s Golden Girls role shaped her image and rise
The actress rose from a chatty hostess to star in Life with Elizabeth The Betty White Show and more before joining The Golden Girls. A pivotal swap with Rue McClanahan at the suggestion of director Jay Sandrich redefined her Rose character, contrasting Sue Ann and adding a literal innocent humor.
