About 26 000 people gathered at Midway Mall Tuesday night for the ninth annual July 4th Jaycee fireworks show. The crowd watched orange cascades and a grand finale amid car top viewing and ground sparklers, with pledges to the flag, remarks by Jaycee President George Buck, Mayor Marguerite Bowman, and guest speaker Wally Kinnan.

Dog hurled from 14 story roof injures woman
In Johannesburg a dog named Blackie was thrown from a 14 story building during a roof incident. The miniature Pomeranian died on impact. The owner Adele Goosen, 10, lost the pet. Rose Purse, 54, suffered serious injuries and underwent emergency surgery.
