Sheriff Deputy Kenneth Tomaszewski Shot Dead Near Findley Park

Lorain County deputy Kenneth Tomaszewski, 24, died of a chest wound after a shooting near Findley State Park in Wellington Township. An unidentified white male in his 20s was captured about an hour later as law enforcement cordoned a wooded area west of the park entrance with officers from multiple departments and K nine units. The suspect’s name was not released and details remained unclear as Tomaszewski’s fiancée arrived at Elyria Memorial Hospital.

Lorain County Historical Society Old Fashioned Fourth

The Lorain County Historical Society hosts an all day Fourth of July celebration at 509 Washington Ave with an 11th annual antique auto show museum artifacts an ice cream social bake sale and refreshments from 12:30 to 5 pm. Two fireworks displays are slated for the night with the Jaycees program at Ely Stadium starting 9 pm and Hills Department Store fireworks at 10:15 pm.

Tenants Lose Bid To Keep Escrow Funds At North Ridgeville Park

The Pine Ridge Mobile Home Tenants Association challenges Elyria Municipal Court Referee Saddler's order to release about $11,500 of escrow funds. Association lawyers Friedman and Gaynor plan an appeal within 14 days. The group, about 103 of 235 owners, has $16,900 in June and July rent in escrow amid a rent strike over month to month leases and park conditions. A July 13 hearing will also address tenant complaints and a separate $103,000 damages suit for reduced rental values.

Machines misread Susan B Anthony dollar at BART

In San Francisco the Bay Area Rapid Transit District warned riders that automated fare devices may reject the Susan B Anthony dollar or return it as four quarters due to machine tolerance and wear on the coin. Signs advised customers not to use the new dollar coin until devices recognize it reliably.
