U S Chaplain and Soldiers Seized Across Berlin Border
Soviet troops at the Doeppel crossing grabbed a U S chaplain and three soldiers who strayed about one yard into the Soviet zone in Berlin. The four were taken away while U S authorities did not release names. Two British soldiers were released after being arrested in East Germany. Separately, East German youths seized after fleeing West last August were lured back into Soviet territory. A top Communist leader urged mass strikes in West Berlin to topple Mayors and the chancellor.

Robert Frederick Elected Legion Post Commander
Robert Frederick a Bendix-Westinghouse time study engineer and Elyria High School graduate was elected commander of Elyria American Legion Post 12. The 35 year old World War II veteran served in the 272nd Infantry and finished service in 1946. He will be installed August 19 and has held numerous post roles including Boy Scout chairman and assistant adjutant. Other officers were chosen for one year terms plus Novak for three years. A nomination for chaplain will occur July 15 after the death of Rev. John Flynn.

Colson Co Offers Wage Increase and Benefits to Striking Workers
Neely Powers, president of The Colson Corporation, mailed letters to all employees outlining a three part offer to end the work stoppage begun May 26. The proposal includes a seven cent hourly wage raise retroactive to April 15 1952, three weeks vacation after 15 years of service, and higher shift differentials raising second shift to six cents and third shift to eight. The offer requires Wage Stabilization Board approval due to rules limits.

Patterson Fires Blast At Commissioners Over Paint Purchase
County Engineer Donald E. Patterson assails County Commissioners Oscar G. Dunn and R. J. Fortney for settling on an unsatisfactory batch of traffic paint bought last February from Wagonman Paint Co. for 2479 dollars. Commissioners said the firm met specifications but agreed to replacements at a dollar trade-in. Patterson contends the paint failed to meet standards after analysis. Also, Patterson reported damage to the southeast Fender at the Erie avenue bridge caused by a lake freighter and proposed a stronger Fender replacement.
