Fire crews rescue cats from blaze in Elyria apartment
Two cats were rescued from a basement apartment fire at 223 Washington Ave in Elyria. Assistant Fire Chief Bob Dempsey said a short circuit in an extension cord ignited clothing, with 15 minutes needed to extinguish the blaze. The resident, Sarah Wallhead, was away. neighbors were allowed back after 7 p.m.

A 15-year-old boy faces two felonies for arson and aggravated arson in a vacant home fire at 417 West River Road.
