Nixon seeks extra war funds to sustain Indochina operations

President Nixon asked for additional war funding through year end to cover intensified bombing and mining in North Vietnam and continued operations in South Vietnam. Laird testified to the House Appropriations Committee that another 2.25 to 3 billion could be needed for Indochina, with total fiscal year war costs near 3.2 billion.

Fisher Body and Lorain Ford To Work July 3 Normal

Workers at the Elvira Fisher Body plant and the Lorain Ford Assembly plant will run normal shifts on Monday July 3 but will not work on July 4. A Connecticut story had claimed both plants would be closed.

Elyria man held in daylight bank robbery

A 49 year old Elyria carpenter is in custody over a daytime robbery at a National City Bank in Strongsville. About $2000 was recovered after the suspect fled on foot, then surrendered when chased by Officer William Hull who fired at a toy gun. The FBI will handle arraignment.

Lorain County Red Cross aids Towanda flood victims

Four Ohio volunteers from Lorain County accompanied by two staff members work in Towanda and nearby Bradford County to aid flood-displaced residents. They processed hundreds of families, helped locate shelter, and describe the Susquehanna flood as the worst disaster in their experience.

Four Injured as Light Plane Crashes on Takeoff

An Avon Lake family of four escaped with minor injuries when their Cessna 172 crashed during takeoff from Ortner's Airport off Route 60. Mrs. Kenneth Skinner aged 128 Herman Drive and her husband, the pilot, along with two children Debbie and Don were treated and released. Officials cite unknown power failure as cause after the aircraft veered off the runway and hit a fence on George Dalton's property.

Viet offensive slows near Quang Tri City
