Cleveland to halt layoff of 193 city policemen
Cleveland officials rescinded layoffs for 193 policemen and ordered reduced hours for the rest of the year. The move aims to save the city about 1 million dollars while allowing 24 hours of outside work weekly. Union leaders will vote on alternatives. Layoffs of 159 other city workers began today, reflecting a broader financial crisis after tax increase proposals were rejected.
