Standen Couple Mark 50 Years With Open House Note
Amherst residents Mr and Mrs Ervin H Standen celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary with a 3 to 4 pm open house at Cooper Foster Park Road Amherst. They met in a strawberry patch when Cora Staine visited her sister and later wed on July 4, 1905 at Elyna Masonic Temple with Justice of the Peace Anthony Neiding officiating. The couple, longtime Amherst neighbors, raised their family on the Standen farm and enjoy gardening, sewing, embroidery, and Indian baseball games on TV and radio. Despite illness limiting plans, an hourlong open house will proceed after a brief family gathering at 2 pm. They have ten children, two grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren.

Amherst Faces Sewer Expansion Costs and Financing Options
Browne of Floyd G Browne Associates told the Amherst Board of Public Affairs and Mayor Hogrefe last night that average daily cost to residents would about eight cents in year one for a full sanitary sewer and treatment plant project. He explained costs would drop as system expands and more users connect, with outside taps sharing in the burden. The plan foresees a village population around 10 000 and notes competitive bids help keep prices down. The board unanimously accepted the Marion firm's report and sent it to council for action, outlining two financing paths: by voter referendum or mortgage revenue plan. The total project cost is estimated at 622 350, with the village share 448 700. breakdown includes rights of way, construction, engineering, supervision, and administrative expenses.
