Roosevelt Fails Early Then Gains Votes At Convention

At the Democratic National Convention in Chicago the session dragged into the morning with Franklin D. Roosevelt failing on the first ballot, reaching 666 1 4 votes, then improving to 677 3 4 on the second ballot as anti-Roosevelt forces rallied. Alfred E. Smith led with 201 3 4, Garner trailed, and other nominees remained in contention.

Ohio and Roosevelt contest on first ballot at Chicago convention

Tumult filled the Chicago Stadium as the Democratic National convention opened ballots. Ohio stuck with Governor George White, 52 votes first ballot, 50 1 2 second ballot with one absent. Indiana backed Baker as possible compromise. Pennsylvania split, Durbin pressed a poll, but revolt faded as delegates cried For White. Roosevelt hinted at early gains.

Sewer Bonds Sold by County Commissioners for District Three

East Carlisle Sanitary Sewer District Number Three bonds totaling 2900 dollars were sold yesterday afternoon by county commissioners to the Elyria Savings and Trust Company.
