Former Pastor Returns to First United Presbyterian
At the annual meeting the First United Presbyterian invited Rev. T Matthew Gilliland to serve as stated supply for one year. County to require sewage disposal plan in rural allotments

Sheriff appoints two deputies to join 16-member force
Sheriff Carl R. Finegan announced the addition of Roy Niece 58 of Oak Point Road Lorain and Michael Pappas 26 of 315 Delaware Avenue Lorain to the department bringing the staff to 16 deputies plus one woman for civil work. Both start Monday at 300 dollars monthly with a 15 dollar raise in three months and 30 additional dollars in six months. Niece a former Cleveland Heights officer will patrol liquor spots at night with juvenile detentions and police will also target burglaries and night speeding. Pappas served in the South Pacific with the Marines and recently worked for the Cleveland Lorain Highway Coach Co.

Princess Victoria sinks in Irish Sea with heavy loss of life
Belfast reports the British coastal steamer Princess Victoria sank in the icy Irish Sea during a hurricane. Of 183 aboard, most leaped into freezing waters as rescuers from coastguard boats, tugs, ships, and naval craft battled 120 mph winds to reach survivors. Twenty were saved by Donaghadee lifeboat.

A local store reported another bad check cashing incident yesterday. Henry Koepp of Vestal Shoe, 104 Middle Avenue, said a man bought two pairs of shoes for 16.33, received 95.67 in cash, and left after the National City Bank Cleveland Rocky River office said the check for 112.50 was no good. The man was described as five seven, 35 to 40, 200 pounds, brown hair, wearing work clothes and a jacket. the check was payable to Paul Green and signed J C Carton.
