Two Pedestrians Struck By Car Injured In Accident

Elyria police detained driver John B Sparhawk Jr after a collision at Middle avenue and Second street. Thirty pedestrians were taken to Elyria Memorial Hospital amid injuries to Mrs Juanita Thomas and her son Ronald. Thomas sustained a head laceration and leg injuries. Ronald injured both legs. Both were admitted for observation and X rays.

Three Held As Shoplifting Suspects

Elyria police turned a man and two women over to Lorain police after an investigation of a shoplifting report from Bersons store. George Curry and Elsa Hanson and Elaine Jackson, all of Cleveland, were arrested after officers followed their car to Lake Avenue. A clerk did not identify them at Bersons, but items stolen from a Lorain store were found in the car.

Ohio Weekend Accidents Claim Eighteen Lives

A United Press survey shows Ohio weekend deaths reached a high in weeks with eighteen fatalities. Fourteen were from traffic crashes, three from home accidents, and one person died in a restaurant fall, including a two car collision on Route 4 near Dayton.

Ridgeville Water Line Project Stalled Over Contract Terms

County commissioners received a letter from W C Thornburgh Cincinnati bond house stating the Ridgeville water line project is at a standstill. Bonding attorneys argue a continuous water contract through the life of about 500000 in bonds is required, but Elyria offers a ten year term. The city will not agree to a longer contract, prompting consideration of canceling the contract.

Amherst Man Injured When Car Hits Tree

Frank N Oertel, 50, of 414 North Main Street, Amherst, was hospitalized with lacerations after his car struck a tree on North Ridge Road east of Route 38. He swerved to avoid Stephen Honovitch’s turning vehicle, causing the crash. Honovitch’s car was undamaged.

Protest over proposed spring valley sewer rent fee

About 300 Spring Valley residents petitioned against Elyria city plans to bill sewer charges by water use. County prosecutor Harold Ewing said the city ordinance could not be enforced as drafted but fees on a proportional basis under a 24 year old contract might be lawful. Elyria council may suspend charges pending further study. area includes 300 homes and one business, with commercial cap at 100 dollars monthly.

Traffic Mishaps Reported To Sheriff's Dept

Four traffic incidents were reported to the sheriff's department over the weekend. Paul Agnes of Wellington said his car went out of control on Hanover road at 3 a.m. causing a ditch and 45 degree bank climb with no damage. Robert Bates of 451 West River Street reported damage to his car and another on the way out of the Roli Arena parking lot. George Gunselman of Sugar Ridge Road and Earl Willson of Cleveland were damaged when Willson turned into a tavern parking lot on Cleveland Road. John Pakala of Cleveland said his car was damaged by a hit and run on Cleveland Road near Ridgeville.
