City demolishes long neglected house in Lorain County
City officials completed a two year effort to force the property owners to repair or demolish a decaying house. Key Bank Co. is listed as the taxpayer. Demolition will cost about 3900 dollars with a lien placed on the land and owners billed for the expense. Mayor Deanna L Hill defended the action citing risk to nearby homes and potential vandalism. Roy Cook who moved nearby two years ago welcomed the removal, noting concerns about drug use and safety near the derelict site.

Elyria district levy polling highlights survey gaps
Eve Lyn France, school board president, urged continued effort to secure a levy passage. A free telephone survey by Lorain County Community College’s Public Services Institute polled 306 registered voters, mainly 55 plus, white, with no district family, finding 57 percent would vote yes in February while 59 percent had backed it in November. The margin of error was about 5.5 percent. Respondents who voted no cited mismanagement, high taxes, and the 1996 Elyria West High closure. Residents want clearer spending details from the district.
