Florida farmers race to clear fruit before embargo
Growers hurried to ship undamaged fruit before a seven day embargo begins to protect Florida citrus after a severe freeze. The Florida Citrus Commission issued the embargo effective at 7 am, with inspectors stopping at midnight while packing houses limit loads and laborers rush to processing plants. Officials cite the worst Florida freeze of the century and note undamaged fruit now remains mainly in Indian River County area.
