Timing matters in contract bridge three no trump clash

In a four handed match two boards reached three no trump. At the first table North opened with diamonds and the defense yielded three no trump after a sequence where West wasted a club. In the second table the defense was tighter with East signaling nine and delaying the ace, enabling three diamonds and two spades to defeat the contract. East later timed the diamond ace to better lead through South's potential diamond holdings.
