Elyria teen pleads guilty in fatal Morgan Street fire

A 15 year old from Elyria admitted to juvenile counts of arson and involuntary manslaughter for the February Morgan Street fire that killed 12 year old Angelique Hamilton and her grandmother Irene Springer. Prosecutors said he pursued Angelique after being spurned. He faces likely juvenile penalties, with two aggravated murder counts dropped as part of the plea.

Colombia quake kills more than 1,000

A magnitude 6 quake wrecked western Colombia, killing over 1,000 and injuring hundreds. In Armenia the Red Cross rescued three men trapped overnight from a four story building as residents waited out the night around bonfires. The disaster flattened cities and towns across the region.

Invacare reports record earnings for 1998

Invacare Corp of Elyria reported record sales and earnings for the fourth quarter and full year 1998. Net annual sales rose 22 percent to 797 million, Q4 sales 210 million up 23 percent, and Q4 income climbed to 14.2 million. Full year net income rose to 45.7 million from 40.4 million.

Gays Hold Foster Parenting Rights In Lorain County

Lorain County Children Services continues to allow homosexuals to serve as foster parents after a board reviewed a study by Case Western Reserve University researchers. The report titled Placing children with gay and lesbian parents found no evidence that gay or lesbian households harm children and noted two such families are pursuing adoptions.
