Foes of Water Plan Circulating Petition
Oberlin petition seeks a referendum on a council approved plan for a $1.7 million water project. Ira L. Porter of People's Banking Co. says about 2713 signatures are needed to place the issue on the November ballot, with 608 of 600 votes from the last gubernatorial election cited. The measure asks to submit Resolution 286 CMS to electors, approving a dam on Black River, a 380 million gallon raw water reservoir, a new treatment plant, and repairs to distribution lines as part of Burgess and Niple’s study. Porter argues the system can be upgraded for five to ten more years, but has not provided facts to counter the engineer report.
