Population shifts threaten new congressional map changes

Donald Starsinic of the Census Bureau notes western mountain and New England population gains could alter House representation by 1980. If trends hold, Florida and Texas gain two seats each, Arizona California Oregon Tennessee Utah gain one. New York, Ohio, Illinois, Michigan, Pennsylvania and South Dakota would lose seats.

Woman Held in Slaying of Brunswick Businessman

A 20-year-old Shaker Heights woman identifying as Kathy Crenshaw was arrested in Cleveland on Dec. 21 stabbing death of Brunswick salesman William C. McNeil, 53, found dead at his Judith Drive home. She faces Medina Municipal Court arraignment and is held in Medina County Jail.

Tooth grows in a boy’s foot astonishes doctors

In Lenoir North Carolina thirteen year old Doug Pritchard found a tooth growing in the instep of his left foot after a painful object was removed by Dr Amor Bournouie. The doctor explained a gene misplacement in the fetus caused the rare condition.

Carter proposes $500.2 billion 1979 budget plan

President Carter sends Congress a $500.2 billion fiscal 1979 budget featuring increased defense education and health spending and a $60.6 billion deficit. He cites 2 percent real purchasing power growth and tax cuts totaling $25 billion aimed at creating about one million jobs. The plan foresees a $3 billion contingency for health or urban aid starts. If approved, outlays rise from $462.2 billion in 1978 to $500.2 billion. receipts total $429.6 billion.

Koehring weighs Lorain plant closure as costs soar

Water break damages downtown in Cleveland

Millions of gallons flooded downtown after a 36 inch water main rupture. Mayor Dennis Kucinich said crews pump water from a seven by 35 by 15 foot hole as portions of Memorial Shoreway may collapse. Estimated damage ranges 2 to 3 million dollars with wide traffic rerouting.

Ohio cold snap delays January thaw across Lorain County

Northern Ohio faced bitter cold with readings as low as six degrees below zero in Lorain County. Snow melt was minimal despite sunny skies as forecasters warned the January thaw may be late or absent, risking ice jams and potential flooding if precipitation returns.
