Farmers Find Their Wheat Worth More

Thirty five Lorain County farmers who stored 13000 bushels of 1939 wheat under the wheat loan program now see their wheat worth 4550 dollars more than at harvest. Loans of 73 cents a bushel allowed storage rather than selling at 60 cents. The 18000 bushels secured 9490 dollars, 1690 more than harvest sale would have brought. The price has since risen to about 12 Sin, about 2.60 above loaned amounts, Ludwig notes. Many Ohio farmers have cashed loans as market price exceeds loan value.
