Sheriff Rejects Sixteen Cent Meal for Prisoners
Sheriff Carl R Finegan refused to approve a 6cents a meal plan proposed by county commissioners for feeding prisoners at the county jail. He warned he would wash his hands of the meal business if the present rate could not be maintained and the commissioners took over. County Accepts Mobile Boiler To Heat Lor County Children’s Home
County commissioners accepted a mobile boiler owned by Henry Hart of Elyria as an emergency heat source for the Lor County Children’s Home in Oberlin until new boilers can be installed. Howard Miller credited Hart’s offer and noted past use of a state highway mobile boiler during a similar emergency. The board will move the boiler to the home and integrate it with the current high pressure laundry boiler. Two new boilers and stokers will be bid next Monday at 10 am, with an estimated cost of 4509 dollars. bids may be obtained from architect Alva Smith. Trustees had earlier authorized an immediate boiler order, but commissioners said trustees lack authority to purchase, directing T O Murphy Co. to await a formal process. To expedite repairs, the commissioners waived the usual 30-day bid period with State Auditor Ferguson’s approval, announcing invitational bids to close at 10 am Monday.
