Holmes expects to raise funds by selling 70 acres of timber if needed, keeping a historic connection to Willard’s Spirit of ’76 painting. The farm’s rescue preserves a site tied to the famous Civil War fifer Hugh Mosher and to Archibald Willard’s celebrated work displayed in Philadelphia in 1876.
