Ohio Supreme Court ethics rules set candidate spending limits

The Ohio Supreme Court in 1985 amended ethics rules to cap spending by judicial candidates from 500000 for chief justice to 50000 for county or municipal court races. Lawsuits challenged the limits, a federal judge struck them down, and the 6th Circuit upheld the ruling despite state amendments. The court noted no clear link between personal spending and judicial independence.

Jackson sentenced for child endangerment by former judge

Jackson was sentenced by former Judge Floyd Harris to two to 15 years on a felony child endangerment conviction. A lighter from Jackson's home was believed to have caused burn marks on her 2 year old daughter's back and abdomen. Jackson claimed marks came when her daughter crawled under plywood placed across the bed by her boyfriend. A hearing for expungement was set for Feb 19, and probation officers were ordered to prepare a report. The court heard about alleged cruelty and neglect.
