Fire Destroys J. E. Robson Residence in Elyria
Fire chief W N Bates led the probe into Elyria’s costliest blaze in five years. The 22 room J Edward Robson home at 280 Washington Ave burned from late Saturday night into Sunday morning, with losses estimated at 40 000 to 50 000. The fire started in the basement but the cause is undetermined. Fire department crews battled flames from 10 42 p m Saturday until 7 45 a m Sunday, using thousands of gallons of water as antique furnishings fur and jewelry were ruined. Initial alarm misdirected crews to 208 Washington Ave before locating the blaze.
