New Apple Turley Variety Appraised for Ohio

Turley apples for planting in Ohio are being appraised by C W Ellenwood of the Ohio Agricultural Experiment Station horticulture department after years of testing. In Ohio the fruit is inferior in dessert quality to Stayman but good for culinary uses, with size equal to or larger than Stayman and less cracking. Ellenwood says Turley could substitute for Stayman where cracking or poor color limits Stayman profits, noting similar bloom time, bearing age, and productivity.
