Local libraries honor King with children’s book read aloud
Elyria Public Library West River branch hosted a Saturday session where a presenter read a life story of Martin Luther King Jr. The book follows his childhood, motivation to change, and ends with a Dream but dream with your eyes open and do what you can. Government offices and banks close Monday for observance as many groups plan King celebrations.

Vigil honors boy nine who died after sled collision
A prayer vigil at Great Lakes Church in Amherst gathered hundreds of parents and community members for Drew Hayden, a nine year old who died from injuries after colliding with a car while sledding near his North Ridgeville home. Relatives and coaches recalled his connection to Amherst schools and local youth football.

Lorain crash victim and driver ID’d
Lorain police named Cleonna Dunseth twenty from Lorain as the suspected drunk driver in a Friday night crash at West 23rd Street and Oakdale Avenue. Dunseth’s white 2001 Malibu ran a stop sign, struck Michael Keener, and hit two pedestrians, killing a 62 year old man. Keener, 58, was in a black 2001 Town Car. Dunseth was unlicensed.

5th generation farmers embrace aquaponics at Lettuce Heads Farm
Nicholas and Kurk Ziegler run Lettuce Heads Farm with their fathers Ken and Kevin in Brighton Townships. The 5000-plant greenhouse grows lettuce kale shard collards and more year round using an aquaponics system that feeds plants with filtered tilapia waste. Water circulates between four 1000-gallon fish tanks and two filters with waste repurposed for a two-acre outdoor garden and future worm composting.
