Pat Nixon childhood home fire sparks restoration talk
Cerritos officials weigh restoring Pat Nixon's childhood home after a Monday fire bomb attack gutted the five room house. Fire chief says rebuilding could cost about forty thousand dollars while the structure remains salvageable. The city acquired the house in 1967 and opened it as a museum in 1974, with parts used for preschool and art classes. Mrs Nixon lived there from 1913 to 1939 before leaving for college.

Lungfish may yield clue to suspended animation research
Pennsylvania scientists at the University of Pennsylvania study the African lungfish as it estivates in mud for up to two years. Dr. Alfred Fishman says the air-breathing fish could illuminate how to slow human life processes during critical illness, enabling operations with minimal breathing or heart interference. The lungfish hibernates through dry seasons by dormancy, slowing heart and kidney activity as water returns.

Evel Knievel to face Judge who sentenced him today
Santa Monica California UPI reports a Superior Court Judge will decide on Knievel’s five hours AWOL from jail. Knievel, sentenced by Judge Edward Rafeedie to six months for assault, has served about two months. He admitted beating his former publicity agent with a baseball bat over a book. He criticized the book as defamatory and insulting to his family. Knievel, on a work-release program, left weekdays to attend to business and did not return one night. He told his probation officer he might flee to Cuba, then returned five hours late.
