Americans recall four months of Eritrean captivity
Bowidowicz and Strickland, both Americans, describe two captors and a four month ordeal in Ethiopia's Eritrea region. They survived on a deck of cards and paperback books from the embassy. Bowidowicz lost 50 pounds, endured heat exhaustion, and is cleared for 30 days leave. Strickland was treated at Brook Army Hospital. Three others remain held. The escape included attackers demanding the U.S. stop aid to Ethiopia.
