Manufacturers say price hikes unlikely in 1998 outlook
The National Association of Manufacturers warned U.S. price increases will be limited in 1998 due to a strong dollar and weak Asian markets. The report projects inflation near 1.6 percent for 1998, down from 1.7 percent in 1997, suggesting room for the Federal Reserve to ease rates. It also argues deflation is unlikely and notes real rates remain restrictive amid Asia’s weakness.
