Retired Farmer Killed in LaGrange Route 303 Crash

Henry William Heiden 78 of West Road BC 4 Wellington was killed after 5 p m when his 1950 car struck a stopped pipeline truck on Route 303 in LaGrange. Deputy sheriffs probed cause while coroner conducts death investigation. Heiden, a longtime farmer, leaves son Earl and daughter Mrs Helen Mull, three grandchildren, and three sisters. Funeral services Friday at 2 p m officiated by Rev Walter Young. Burial in East Pittsfield.

Truman Proposals For 1952 Budget And Policy

President Truman outlined legislative recommendations to Congress in his annual economic report. He urged renewing the defense production pact, continuing aid to free nations, reforming trade barriers, and adjusting price and credit controls. He signaled a 1952 auto production drop, housing and consumer cuts, plus new small business aid and major development projects including the St. Lawrence Seaway. The plan projects a ~16 billion federal deficit next year with a new budget to be submitted soon.

Two Hurt When Freight Train Crashed Into Flier

Two men were seriously injured and 25 others shaken when a freight train crashed into the rear of the Cincinnati Cleveland Special near New London. The passenger train had stopped for a broken reverse lever. emergency repairs were made to continue to Cleveland. Injured include Ben Parker of St Louis and Walter Feld of Greencastle. Feld suffered a badly fractured leg. Parker was taken to Mansfield Hospital after initial treatment at New London.

Local draft set calls 15 registrants for February induction

Elyria area men will be called for induction next February as announced by clerk Miss Catherine McKee. Registrants must be 26 years old and report on Saturday February 29. A preinduction physical exam is set for 70 men, with 35 scheduled to report on February 7 and February 20.

Four men in Lorain county jail confessed to numerous offenses clearing up about 25 burglaries and strong arm robberies across Lorain Erie Cuyahoga counties and southern Ohio. Accident Victims Remain In Critical Condition

White Cross hospital in Columbus reports Marie McHenry age 22 still serious but improving after skull injuries from a Friday accident near Kenton. Cpl Dennis Whitcomb of Grafton regained consciousness but remains in critical condition with serious head injuries. Both were returning from Ridgeway visit and taken to San Antonio Hospital in Kenton before Marie was moved to Columbus for surgery.

Two Truck Drivers Die in Fog Crash on Turnpike

In heavy fog on the Pennsylvania Turnpike near Reading Pa last night a three truck collision killed two drivers. Police identified the deceased as Harold Jenkins Harty 41 of West Richfield Ohio and Roger L Christman 23 of Chillicothe Ohio. The surviving driver Jacob Pritts of Berlin Pa was not injured.

Plans Completed For Bridge Over The NYC Tracks

Joseph Tomsic of the state highway division says plans for a new Route 10 bridge over the New York Central Railroad near Cuyahoga County are nearly done. The $500,900 project will replace an aging wooden bottleneck, improve traffic flow with a 38 foot wide span and long approaches, and provide about 600 feet of clear sight distance. The bridge and approaches will extend about a half mile, with a joint state and federal funding plan.

350 Workers Laid Off at Mansfield Manufacturing Co

350 production workers were laid off at Humphreys Manufacturing Co. makers of bathroom fixtures. Management blamed business conditions and cited factory slowdowns as the cause. Employee concerns over future employment remained unresolved as the plant prepared for possible further cuts.

Moulder Burned In Gas Explosion at Elyria Foundry

An Elsman worker was burned in a gas explosion at the Elyria Foundry Division plant shortly before noon. Luther Carr of 241 Temple Court sustained burns to the hand and body when a core oven in department two ignited. Firemen from three companies responded to the 12:15 am alarm and extinguished the blaze with water from Quad One’s booster line. Minor damage to the core oven was reported.

Robert Greene Injured in Auto Accident Near Springfield

Robert E. Greene of 118 Courtland Street was injured in a weekend auto crash near Springfield Ohio. His mother said officials at Springfield City Hospital report a broken leg and possible fractured jaw. He is listed in fair condition and not considered in danger.

Weather Allows Some Street Repair Work

Street department crews use good weather for maintenance on city streets. Director D. W. Kathe says crews level road beds and spread cinders on unimproved streets to pack winter ruts.
