Liquor Permits To Be Probed In Ohio
Columbus new Republican state administration will probe liquor permits issued in the final days of former Gov Lauche s administration. Liquor Director Stanley Cofall said a check will review permits granted to private clubs to ensure compliance with the law. Records show 34 private club permits issued in the last week of the outgoing administration. Tavern operators pay 1000 to 3000 for a permit, with allegations some clubs served as fronts. Former permit chief Harlan T. Chapman cited factors including proceeds from Ohio servicemen entertainment and bingo as part of the late surge.

Backlog of club permit applications cited by Chapman
