Two Year Old Perishes As Home Burns In Lorain
A two room cottage on Elyria Avenue burned Saturday night, killing Jackie Pruchnicki two years old. John Pruchnicki, 47, and his wife Alice 37, escaped with two other children Jacob seven and Walter four forty five, both treated for burns while the baby was not harmed. John Pruchnicki, hospitalized in delirious condition, recovered enough to tell deputies what happened though he initially believed his wife had saved Jackie. Fire investigators ponder oil stove as a possible cause. the kitchen door remained the only entry to the dwelling. Remains of Jackie were taken for funeral arrangements as deputies continued inquiry.

Highway Chief Says Personnel Records Burned
Columbus January 16. State Highway and Welfare Departments leaders charge records and correspondence were destroyed before the new administration. Highway Director Beightler says personnel records of the Highway Division were ordered burned the day the Davey administration left office. He reports orders sent to 12 division offices by telephone and that most records were burned. Beightler suspends J Matthew Carr for 30 days and warns of removal if he does not resign. Welfare Director Sherwood says unofficial correspondence with the Governor’s office was destroyed. Beightler says 40 employees of Division Six were dismissed today as part of an economy drive, with over 600 already let go since last Wednesday. He plans to combine county engineers’ jobs, cutting positions by at least half, naming several engineers who will lose their posts. Reichelderfer and Stevenson are noted in staffing changes. Sherwood says further eliminations will follow and instructs institutions to hire their own personnel under law, which he terms a past gross violation.
