Confucius statue unveiled at Tiananmen Square in Beijing
A 31 foot bronze Confucius statue was installed on the east side of Tiananmen Square near Mao Zedong's mausoleum and portrait. Officials argue Confucius supports national identity amid rapid change while upholding harmony and ethics. Observers note revival of Confucianism and its fit with China’s current political narrative.
